Why is this cat breed always unwanted?

Owning a pet is a solemn commitment, and once you start you have to keep it for the rest of its life.

In the world, there exists a type of cat that holds the highest rate of abandonment. Its fur is a mix of colors, often looking disheveled, leading many to mistake it for a mixed breed. This cat is the tortoiseshell cat. But why is the tortoiseshell cat often disliked by people?

Not Pretty Enough

In today’s society, it’s an era where appearance matters, whether it’s in judging people or cats. Compared to other cats, tortoiseshell cats can’t exactly be called beautiful. In fact, they might even be considered ugly.

When people see others dressing up their cats, making them look pretty, but their own tortoiseshell cat ends up looking worse with every attempt at adornment, that feeling is truly not something everyone can handle!

Mixed Colors Kitten

Many tortoiseshell cats produce offspring with unstable coat colors. Some of them may look better, but most of them are mixed colors, so it is very difficult to match colors when tortoiseshell cats are bred.

When breeding, a small tortoiseshell cat is like opening a blind box. Without seeing it with your own eyes, you have no idea what fur color it will be, which is why many people dislike tortoiseshell cats.

Personality

Have you heard of ‘tortitude’? It’s a term used by cat enthusiasts to describe the unique personality traits often seen in tortoiseshell cats. They are known for being feisty, independent, and strong-willed. For some cat owners, this can be a bit overwhelming. They might prefer a more laid-back or predictable cat, which torties are definitely not! But for those who love a cat with character, a tortie could be the perfect match.

Superstition

Throughout history, cats of all kinds have been the subject of myths and superstitions. In some cultures, tortoiseshell cats are considered to bring good luck, while in others, they’re looked upon less favorably. These superstitions, as baseless as they are, can influence how people perceive these cats.

Have you ever met a tortoiseshell cat? What was your impression? Could a ‘tortie’ with a big personality be the perfect addition to your life? Remember, every cat deserves a chance to be loved, regardless of their coat color or pattern!
